Hemolytic disease of the fetus (also called hemolytic disease of the fetus). A disease caused by incompatibility of blood types between the mother and the fetus. A large number of erythroblasts, which do not normally appear, appear in the peripheral blood, causing hemolysis of red blood cells, and an increase in unconjugated bilirubin that is not excreted from the liver, resulting in hyperbilirubinemia. If an exchange transfusion is performed immediately after birth, the newborn can be saved.
