Taihu boat (English name)

Japanese: 太湖船 - たいこせん（英語表記）Tài hú chuán

A song from Jiangnan, China. The composer and the year of composition are unknown. It describes a boat floating on Lake Taihu in Jiangsu Province, moving quietly in the light breeze at dusk, under the pale moonlight. It also has lyrics and is sometimes sung, but it is famous as a bamboo and string ensemble piece centered on flutes and biwa. However, it does not seem to be popular in Japan nowadays. Before World War II, this song was often used in radio dramas related to China in Japan, creating a Chinese mood. Even today, it is sometimes played in TV dramas.

中国，江南の楽曲名。作曲者，作曲年代は不明。江蘇省の太湖に浮かぶ船が，たそがれどきに軽やかな風をうけて淡い月光のもと，静かに進む情景を描写する。歌詞もあって歌われることもあるが，横笛や琵琶を中心にした糸竹合奏曲として有名。ただし現在は国内で流行しないようである。第2次大戦前，日本で中国に関係するラジオドラマなどによくこの曲を用い，中国的ムードをかもし出していた。今日でもときにテレビドラマに流される。
