An important palace located in the Imperial Palace (Daidai-ri) during the Asuka and Nara periods. It can also be read as "Oandono". However, the specific appearance of the palace is not well known, and it first appeared in records in 685 (Tenmu 14) at Asuka Kiyomihara Palace, and was seen at Emperor Mommu's Fujiwara Palace, Emperor Shomu's Naniwa Palace, Kuni Palace, Shigaraki Palace, and Heijo Palace, and the last record was in 754 (Tenpyo Shoho 6) during the reign of Emperor Kōken, after which no further records appear. The emperor would come to the palace to hold New Year's ceremonies such as the New Year's uta banquet, the sai-e, and the morning greetings. Norinaga Motoori and others proposed that it was a Japanese-style name for the Daigokuden, but subsequent examination of historical materials revealed that it was a different building from the Daigokuden. Considering the importance of the events held there, there was also a theory that it was the main hall of the Imperial Palace (corresponding to the Shishinden of the Heian Palace), but it is now thought to be a building located in one section of the Daigokuden-in Temple that could have been a place for public ceremonies comparable to the Daigokuden.
