His father was the head of the Left Grand Chamberlain, and he served as the governor of Mutsu and Dewa from 1456 to 1493. At the time, the master of inkstones, Sanjonishi Sanetaka, was his nephew, and the noble Nakamikado Nobutane was his son-in-law, and he was involved in the administration of court ceremonies as the practical and cultural center of the noble community. After his residence was burned down in the Onin War (1467-1477), he moved from one place to another, including Kanshuji Temple, Ishiyama-dera Temple, and Kurama-dera Temple, but in 1477 he returned to Kyoto and resumed his service at the Imperial Court, where he guided the courtiers. After resigning as provisional Chunagon in 1465, he did not wish to take up a government position, but in 1492, he was promoted to provisional Dainagon at the strong urging of those around him, but the following year he resigned from all his positions and became a monk in August, taking the post of Buddhist monk under the Buddhist name Renku. There is also an anecdote that during the Kinkaku Incident (1443), he drew his sword to defend himself against the bandits who broke in.
