…The main targets of his criticism were the bureaucratic system, the military, the judiciary, and the philistine nature of the citizens, whose oppressive nature continued even after the war, and especially his chauvinistic patriotism. However, his light and sharp style of writing, which skillfully utilized the characteristics of the Berlin dialect, supported his arguments in an appealing way and made him popular. From 1924 onwards, he was a correspondent in Paris, and at the end of 1926, he took over as editor of the Weltbühne after the sudden death of its editor, and the following year he handed it over to Carl von Ossietzky (1889-1938). Except for these ten months, he never returned to his homeland again, and in 1929 he moved to Sweden. …
