Isaiah

Isaiah

Isaiah was one of the greatest prophets of the Old Testament, active in Jerusalem for over 40 years in the latter half of the 8th century BC. In 742 BC, the year of the death of Uzziah, who had long been king of the Kingdom of Judah, he received a revelation from God and began his prophetic work. At that time, the Assyrian Empire had already begun its war of aggression to build a world empire. Isaiah was convinced that it was God Yahweh who truly controlled history, and that if we quietly trusted in Yahweh, Jerusalem would surely be protected. This was a religious tradition that had been handed down in Jerusalem for a long time, but he asserted this position in the real politics of a turbulent era, especially criticizing military alliances with foreign countries. However, King Ahaz of Judah did not follow Isaiah, and Isaiah's Messianic prophecy was spoken in the midst of a confrontation with Isaiah and other kings of Judah.
