In the narrow sense, it refers to criminology. In the broad sense, however, it refers to an academic system that collectively refers to criminology, which aims to scientifically elucidate the causes of crime, and criminal policy and penology, which examine the value of various crime prevention measures, mainly existing penal systems, and discuss necessary reform measures for the system, for crimes that have actually occurred or are at risk of occurring in the future.
