Yoshizane So

Lord of Tsushima Fuchu Domain in the early Edo period. His father was Yoshinari and his mother was from the Hino clan. He was born in Shitaya, Edo. His childhood name was Hikomitsu. In 1655, he was appointed to the rank of Junior Fourth Rank and Governor of Harima, and in 1656, he succeeded to the title. He became a chamberlain and Governor of Tsushima. During the Kanbun era (1661-1672), he reformed the chigyo system and improved the government structure. With trade with Korea booming, he promoted civil engineering and construction projects and upgraded the status of samurai chigyo, and also invited talented scholars such as Amenomori Hoshu and Matsuura Kasumi. However, trade with Korea began to decline from the end of the Genroku era, and the status established during Yoshizane's time became a shackle on the domain's finances thereafter. In 1692, he retired and handed over his position to his son Yoshimichi, but when Yoshimichi died in 1697 and the younger Yoshikata succeeded him, he was ordered by the shogunate to take charge of Korea-related affairs, and served in this position until 1699. After his retirement, he was called Osakabu Daifu.

江戸前期の対馬府中藩主。父は義成,母は日野氏。江戸下谷の生まれ。幼名彦満。明暦1(1655)年従四位下,播磨守に任じられ,同3年襲封。侍従,対馬守となる。寛文年間(1661～72),知行制度の改革や役所機構の整備を行う。朝鮮貿易の好調を背景に,土木・建築事業,藩士知行の格上げなどを進め,また雨森芳洲,松浦霞沼ら優秀な学者を招聘した。しかし元禄末年から朝鮮貿易は下降線となり,義真の代に形成された格式はその後の藩財政の桎梏となった。元禄5(1692)年跡を息子義倫に譲り隠居したが,同7年義倫が没し年少の義方が跡を継ぐと,朝鮮関係の役儀を司るよう幕府から命じられ,同14年まで務めた。隠居後は刑部大輔と称した。
