り‐やく【利益】

〘名〙 (「やく」は「益」の呉音)① 仏語。仏菩薩などが衆生など他に対して恵みを与えること。恵みを与える種々の行為。また、その恵み・幸せ。利生(りしょう)。※東寺文書‐礼・承和一二年(845)九月一〇日・民部省符案「是期彌勒出時、為令法久住、利益有情也」 〔六十華厳経‐二四〕② ためになること。益になること。※観智院本三宝絵(984)下「律にいはく、比丘は楊枝をもちゐることをゆるす。五の利益ありといへれば」③ ⇒りえき(利益)[補注]②の意味は、リエキの使用が多くなるにつれリエキに吸収された。その結果、リヤクは現代では①の意味ではゴリヤクという語形でしか使用されなくなった。→「りえき(利益)」の語誌
