Yoshishige Sou

Japanese: 宗義調 - そうよししげ

1532-1589 ^* A military commander from the Sengoku to Oda-Toyotomi period.
Born in the first year of Tenbun. The eldest son of Mune Haruyasu. In the 22nd year of Tenbun, he became the lord of Tsushima (Nagasaki Prefecture), and retired in the 9th year of Eiroku. In the 15th year of Tensho, when Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Kyushu, he became the lord of the island again, and was recognized as the original territory. He was ordered by Hideyoshi to encourage Korea to submit to him, and he was involved in the negotiations. He died on December 12, 16th year of Tensho. He was 57 years old. His original name was Yoshichika. He was commonly known as Hikoshichi.

天文(てんぶん)元年生まれ。宗晴康(はるやす)の長男。天文22年対馬(つしま)(長崎県)島主となり,永禄(えいろく)9年隠居。天正(てんしょう)15年豊臣秀吉の九州攻めのときふたたび島主となり,本領をみとめられる。秀吉に朝鮮の臣従をうながすように命じられ,折衝にあたった。天正16年12月12日死去。57歳。初名は義親(よしちか)。通称は彦七。
