This is the major work of Sato Nobuhiro, who lived at the end of the Edo period. It consists of 20 volumes. Thanks to this work, Nobuhiro is known as one of the three greatest agricultural scholars of the Edo period, along with Miyazaki Yasusada and Okura Nagatsune. The manuscript was completed in 1829 (Bunsei 12), but it was not published until after the Meiji period. The book divides useful plants into six categories: roots, stems, bark, leaves, flowers, and fruits, and explains how to cultivate plants that belong to each category. This classification is unprecedented and is considered to be an original creation of Nobuhiro. Approximately 300 species of plants are featured. The most important are fruit-bearing species, which include a wide range of species such as rice, grains, beans, melons, eggplants, rapeseed, cotton, and fruit trees.
