Grassroots Collection - Soukonshu

Japanese: 草根集 - そうこんしゅう

A private collection of poems from the Muromachi period. Fifteen volumes. Compiled by his disciple Masahiro, Shochu's poems. The preface for the fifth year of Bunmei era ( 1473 ) of Ichijo Kaneyoshi begins the first volume. Volume one contains the set number of poems, volumes four to six contain miscellaneous seasonal poems, while volumes two to fourteen are arranged chronologically from the poems of the last 31 years of Shochu's life. There are seven years missing from this collection, and the original was likely much larger. Volume fifteen is entitled Kusanshu Zanba (Soukonshu Zanba) and is an expanded and revised section. It is a lengthy work with over 11,000 poems in total, and is of great value as a resource. There are many later excerpts from this work and similar themes.

室町時代の私家集。一五巻。正徹の歌を門人の正広が編纂。一条兼良の文明五年（一四七三）の序が巻頭にある。巻一は定数歌、巻四～六は四季雑題歌を収めるが、それ以外の巻二～一四は正徹の晩年三一年間の歌を年代順に配列。この間七年分の欠脱があり、原形はもっと大部なものであったらしい。巻一五は草根集残葉と題し、増補拾遺の部分。総歌数一万一千余首の長大なもので、資料的価値も大きい。本書よりの後世の抄出や類題なども多い。
