Senpukuji Cave - Senpukuji Cave

Japanese: 泉福寺洞穴 - せんぷくじどうけつ

Located at the entrance to the castle in Setogoshi-machi, Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, this cave site dates from the early to late Jomon period. It consists of four caves opening into a sandstone cliff at an altitude of 90m. From 1970 to 1979, Sasebo City commissioned Aso Masaru to carry out eight excavation surveys, which uncovered Hajiki pottery and ceramics in the top layer, and below that were unearthed pottery with claw patterns and push-pull patterns from the late Jomon period (Kurokawa style), late period (Kanegasaki style), early period (pressed pattern pottery, streak pattern pottery), and early period with microliths. Below that, ridge pattern pottery and bean pattern pottery were found in the lowest layer.

長崎県佐世保市瀬戸越町城の口にある，縄文時代草創期から晩期にいたる洞窟遺跡。標高90mの砂岩岩壁に開口する四つの洞穴からなる。1970年から79年まで，佐世保市が麻生優に依頼して8次にわたる発掘調査を行った結果，最上層から土師器（はじき）や陶磁器が検出されたが，その下から順次，縄文時代晩期(黒川式)，後期(鐘ヶ崎式)，早期(押型文土器，条痕文土器)，細石器を伴った草創期の爪形文土器，押引文土器が出土し，さらにその下から隆線文土器，最下層から豆粒文土器が検出された。
