…Born in Marion, Indiana, he died in a car accident in California in 1955 while driving his beloved Porsche Speedster. He studied acting at the Actors Studio and other schools, and after appearing on stage and in television dramas, he was cast in the leading role of East of Eden (1955) by director Elia Kazan, and was promoted as the "new Marlon Brando," becoming a star before the film was released. He then starred in Rebel Without a Cause (1955) directed by Nicholas Ray, and appeared in Giants (1956) directed by George Stevens, but died before the film was completed. …
