Japanese: 郷土植物 - きょうどしょくぶつ（英語表記）native plant

Native trees are plants that grow naturally or have existed for a long time in the hometown where a person was born and raised, and trees in particular are called native trees. They play a major role in shaping the landscape of a hometown and have a major impact on the spiritual formation of the people who live there. The importance of native plants is not simply due to nostalgia, but is also related to the problem of the ongoing destruction of nature, the deterioration of people's living environments, and spiritual devastation. The existence of native plants is a major basis for nature conservation and environmental evaluation. Furthermore, in the past, robust foreign plants were mainly used in greening construction work for nature conservation and restoration, but this creates an unnatural feeling in the landscape and is a detour to restore nature, so there is a demand for the use of native plants.

人間の生まれ育った郷土に自生または古くから存在する植物のことで，とくに樹木を郷土樹木native treeという。郷土の風景を構成する主役であり，そこに住む人々の精神形成に大きな影響をおよぼしている。郷土植物が重要視されるのは，単なる郷愁だけではなく，自然破壊が進み，人間の生活環境の悪化，精神の荒廃が問題となったことと関係がある。郷土植物の存在は自然保護，環境評価の大きなよりどころとなる。また自然の保護，修復のための緑化施工に際して，従来強健な外来植物がおもに使われていたが，これが景観に違和感を与え，自然への復元に回り道となることから，郷土植物の利用が要求されている。
