Sennyu (English spelling) Grasshopper warbler

Japanese: センニュウ(仙入) - センニュウ（英語表記）grasshopper warbler

A general term for birds of the Locustella genus in the family Muscicapidae in the order Passeriformes. Seven species are known worldwide. Lengths range from 12 to 18 cm. All species have a brownish overall plumage, and look similar to the Japanese bush warbler or reed warbler. This genus is widely distributed across the Eurasian continent, and four species live in Japan: the Siberian bush warbler L. fasciolata (illustration), the Japanese bush warbler L. ochotensis (illustration), the Makino bush warbler L. lanceolata (illustration), and the Uchiyama bush warbler L. pleskei . The Siberian bush warbler L. certhiola has been recorded as a vagrant bird.

スズメ目ヒタキ科センニュウ属Locustellaの鳥の総称。世界で7種が知られる。全長12～18cm。どの種も全体に褐色のじみな羽色をしていて，外観はウグイスやヨシキリに似ている。この属はユーラシア大陸に広く分布し，日本ではエゾセンニュウL.fasciolata（イラスト），シマセンニュウL.ochotensis（イラスト），マキノセンニュウL.lanceolata（イラスト），ウチヤマセンニュウL.pleskeiの4種が生息し，シベリアセンニュウL.certhiolaが迷鳥としての記録がある。
