nonconformist

Japanese: nonconformist
nonconformist

…In British history, this refers to Protestants who do not adhere to the practices of the Church of England. In the original terminology, Protestants who remained within the Church of England established by Elizabeth I but did not agree with its worship services or church governance and refused to adhere to the Church of England were called nonconformists. Protestants who left the Church of England to form separate congregations and advocate the separation of church and state were called separatists, and Protestants who were granted the legality of religious associations outside the Church of England by the enactment of the Act of Toleration (1689) after the Glorious Revolution were called dissenters.
