A monk from the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Founder of Ankoku-ji Temple in Aki Province. Served by Mori Terumoto, he arranged peace between Oda Nobunaga and Ashikaga Yoshiaki, and between Terumoto and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. After returning to secular life, he received 60,000 koku of rice in Iyo from Hideyoshi. He fought alongside Ishida Mitsunari in the Battle of Sekigahara, where he was captured and executed. Ankoku-ji Ekei. Died in 1600 ( 5th year of the Keicho era). 安土桃山時代の僧。安芸国安国寺の開山。毛利輝元に用いられ、織田信長と足利義昭、さらに輝元と豊臣秀吉の和睦をはかる。還俗して秀吉より伊予六万石を受領。関ケ原の戦いで石田三成につき、捕えられて斬られた。安国寺恵瓊。慶長五年(一六〇〇)没。
