Japanese: 線形群 - せんけいぐん（英語表記）linear group

GL ( n , C ) denotes the set of nth order square matrices over the field of complex numbers C whose determinant is not 0. GL ( n , C ) is the same as { A | A is an nth order square matrix on C that has an inverse}, so it becomes a group through matrix multiplication. This is called the nth order general linear group on C. A subgroup of GL ( n , C ) is called a linear group. All finite groups are isomorphic to a linear group. SL ( n , C ) = { A ∈ GL ( n , C ) | det A = 1}, SL ( n , Z ) = { A ∈ SL ( n , C ) | All elements of A are integers}, etc. are also linear groups.

複素数体C上のn次正方行列で，行列式が0でないものの集合をGL(n，C)で表す。GL(n，C)は｛A｜AはC上のn次正方行列で，逆行列をもつもの｝と一致するから，行列の乗法によって群になる。これをC上のn次一般線形群という。GL(n，C)の部分群を線形群と呼ぶ。すべての有限群は線形群と同型である。SL(n，C)＝｛A∈GL(n，C)｜detA＝1｝，SL(n，Z)＝｛A∈SL(n，C)｜Aの要素はすべて整数｝なども線形群である。
