Election dispute - Senkyo Sosho

Japanese: 選挙争訟 - せんきょそうしょう

A general term for the filing of objections, petitions for review, and lawsuits brought to the election commission or (high) court by voters or candidates for public office who have complaints or objections regarding the validity of an election (Public Offices Election Law, Articles 202-204). Only in cases where there is a violation of the election regulations and there is a risk of affecting the results of the election, the relevant adjudicating body must decide, adjudicate, or rule on the invalidity of the election in whole or in part (Article 205).

選挙の効力に関して不服または異議のある選挙人または公職の候補者が，選挙管理委員会または (高等) 裁判所に提起する異議の申し出，審査の申立ておよび訴訟の総称 (公職選挙法 202～204) 。選挙の規定に違反し，かつ選挙の結果に異動を及ぼすおそれがある場合に限って，当該裁断機関はその選挙の全部または一部の無効を決定し，裁決しまたは判決しなければならない (205条) 。
