Cerro Sechín

Japanese: セロ･セチン（英語表記）Cerro Sechín

Located in the Casma Valley on the north coast of Peru, these are ruins of a temple dating back to around 800 BC, during the formative period of the ancient Andean civilization. The temple has a 52m-wide platform, the front of which is inlaid with stone carvings of warriors and various severed human body parts, including heads, arms and internal organs. Inside the temple, there are multi-coloured murals on the earthen walls of fish and felines with their huge claws highlighted. The presence of stone carvings, rare in coastal regions, and the unique style of expression known as the Sechin style are noteworthy. [Kato Yasutake]
