Japanese: ミミズク（英語表記）Ledra auditura

Hemiptera, Homoptera, Cicadellidae, Odontoidea. Body length (to the wing tip) is about 14 mm for males and about 18 mm for females. Overall color is dark brown or reddish brown, resembling bark. Head is flat and broad, protruding forward. Compound eyes are located laterally and small but protruding. Pronotum is large, with a pair of ear-like projections at the rear. In males, they are small and protrude upward, but in females, they may be large and point upward and forward. Small scutellum is flat, and wing elytra are translucent. Hind tibia is flat and has serrated outer edge. Found on oak trees such as sawtooth oak and Japanese oak, but not many. Inhabits Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Ryukyu Islands, Korea, Taiwan, and China. Short-eared owl Ledropsis discolor is small and slender, with no ear-like projections on the pronotum. (→ Leafhopper )

半翅目同翅亜目ヨコバイ科ミミズク亜科。体長 (翅端まで) は雄 14mm，雌 18mm内外。全体は暗褐色ないし赤褐色で，樹皮に似る。頭部は扁平で幅広く，前方に突出する。複眼は後側方にあり，小さいが突出する。前胸背は大きく，その後部に1対の耳状突起があり，雄では小さく上方に突出するが，雌では大きく前上方に向くことがある。小楯板 (しょうじゅんばん) は平たく，翅鞘は半透明。後肢脛節は扁平で外縁に鋸歯がある。クヌギ，ナラなどにつくが，その数は多くない。本州，四国，九州，琉球列島，朝鮮，台湾，中国に分布する。コミミズク Ledropsis discolorは小型で細長く，前胸背上に耳状突起はない。 (→ヨコバイ )

フクロウ目フクロウ科のなかの，頭部に羽角（耳羽ともいう，耳介のように見える突き出た羽毛）をもつ種の総称。羽角は聴覚とはまったく関係ない。一般に「…ズク」というが，「…フクロウ」と呼ぶ鳥と明確に区別されているわけではない。シマフクロウのように「…フクロウ」と名のつくものでも羽角があるものや，アオバズクのように「…ズク」と名のつくものでも羽角がないものもある。（→猛禽類）
