Spanish physician and theologian. Discovered the pulmonary circulation of blood. Criticized the orthodox interpretation of Christianity, the doctrine of the Trinity, and preached an extremely anthropocentric faith, leading to persecution as a heretic by both the Old and New Churches, and was burned at the stake in Geneva by Calvin.
