This is a district in Tamana City, Kumamoto Prefecture. Formerly Ikura-sho, it was called Nibetsu in ancient times and was a river port on the Tojin River that flourished as a port until the Kikuchi River was re-dug by Kato Kiyomasa (1605). During the Bunroku-Keicho War, it also served as an anchorage for the entry and exit of Korea in Higo (Kumamoto Prefecture). In the early modern period, it served as a rear base for the newly emerging Ohama Port and as a town with artisans (blacksmiths). The town's hustle and bustle continued until the JR Kagoshima Main Line opened (1891) and the transportation system changed. There are Ikura Minami-Kita Hachiman Shrine, built in 1351 (Shohei 6, Kan'o 2), and the grave of the Ming Dynasty's Kaku clan.
