A Christian denomination that began in America. It was founded in 1861 from a group of Adventists who were looking forward to the second coming of Christ in 1844. The denomination strictly observes the seventh day of the week, Saturday, as the Sabbath, as instructed by the Ten Commandments of Moses. It was launched in Japan in 1896, and although it was dissolved by the government during World War II, it was re-established after the war and runs the Tokyo Hygiene Hospital and Sankyo Gakuin, which are alcohol-free, non-smoking, and vegetarian.
