The second largest integrated steel manufacturer in the United States after United States Steel (now the steel division of USX Corp.). Headquartered in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1904 by a group of small and medium-sized steel manufacturers along the Lehigh River in Bethlehem, the company expanded nationwide in the 1920s and 1930s by merging with steel manufacturers in the Midwest and the Pacific Coast. Its main steelworks is in Sparrows Point, Maryland, but in the late 1960s it built a large, state-of-the-art steelworks in the United States in Burns Harbor, Indiana.
