1312‐69 The first king of the Ayutthaya dynasty of Thailand. Reigned 1351-69. He married the ruler of U-Thong, a member of the Chiang Saen royal family, and took over after his father-in-law's death. According to legend, he abandoned U-Thong in 1347 due to an epidemic, and established the new dynasty by establishing the capital in Ayutthaya, a strategic river transportation point. After ascending to the throne, he placed his son Ramsuen in Lopburi and his brother-in-law Pagoa as governor of Suphanburi in the west to strengthen the periphery of the kingdom, while also expanding his power by attacking Sukhothai in the north and Cambodia in the east.
