This is a process carried out to produce high-octane gasoline or aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene, and xylene as chemical raw materials using straight-run heavy naphtha as a raw material. This reaction is carried out under hydrogen pressure using a platinum catalyst supported by a solid acid. Straight-run heavy naphtha (boiling point approximately 80 to 180°C) obtained by atmospheric distillation of crude oil often has a low octane number and a low aromatic content. However, its main components, paraffins and cycloparaffins, can be converted (reformed) into aromatic hydrocarbons by the following reaction: Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
