Catalytic reforming
This is a process carried out to produce high-octane gasoline or aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene, and xylene as chemical raw materials using straight-run heavy naphtha as a raw material. This reaction is carried out under hydrogen pressure using a platinum catalyst supported by a solid acid. Straight-run heavy naphtha (boiling point approximately 80 to 180°C) obtained by atmospheric distillation of crude oil often has a low octane number and a low aromatic content. However, its main components, paraffins and cycloparaffins, can be converted (reformed) into aromatic hydrocarbons by the following reaction:

直留重質ナフサなどを原料として,高オクタン価ガソリンあるいは化学原料としてのベンゼン,トルエン,キシレンなどの芳香族炭化水素を生産する目的で行われるプロセスをいう。この反応は固体酸を担体とした白金系触媒を用い,水素加圧下で行われる。 原油を常圧蒸留して得られる直留重質ナフサ(沸点約80~180℃)は多くの場合,オクタン価が低く,芳香族含有量も少ない。しかしその主成分であるパラフィンあるいはシクロパラフィンを次のような反応によって芳香族炭化水素に変換(改質)することができる。
