Red Bokeh

[Ecology and Utilization]
The corals used for ornaments include the red coral Corallium japonicum , the pink coral C. elatius , the white coral C. konojoi , and the red coral C. rubrum , and are distributed from off the coast of Tosa and the Nansei Islands to Taiwan, the Ogasawara Islands, and the Midway Islands. Most of them grow on the seabed at depths of 100 to 300 meters, but since 1979, they have been collected from the seabed off the coast of the Midway Islands at depths of 1000 to 1500 meters, and are commonly known by the names "mid-red blur" and "mid-white." Red corals have a front and back, and they spread out in a flat plane with small branches and many small projections coming out from the sides and back, and the largest ones can reach a height of about 30 cm.
