Seta
The name of Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture (Omi Province). It is also written as Seta, Seta, or Seta. It refers to the area around the outlet of the Seta River at the southernmost tip of Lake Biwa. It has been a key transportation point since ancient times, and in ancient times it was the location of the Omi Kokufu and Seta Station. Seta Bridge appeared as the site of a decisive battle during the Jinshin War, and was later the site of attacks and defenses during the Genpei War and the Jōkyū War. In later times it was known as Seta Karahashi. In ancient times, Seta Manor and Seta Mikuriya were located here, and crucian carp and funazushi were presented as tributes to the Imperial Court from the Mikuriya. In the Middle Ages, the area around Seta Bridge was called Hashimoto, and the niebito (people who offered tributes) who made a living were called Hashimoto Kugonin (people who offered tributes). Even today, it is a key transportation point with bridges over the Tokaido Main Line, National Route 1, and Meishin Expressway, and the Takebe Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Omi, is located on the east bank of the Seta River. → Awazu Hashimoto Mikuriya
