A town on the Malay Peninsula in southern Thailand. A Srivijaya-style pagoda remains at the Mahayana Buddhist temple Wat Phra Boromthat Chaiya. It is said that this town was the capital of the Srivijaya Kingdom, which prospered through trade in the Straits of Malacca from the 7th to 8th centuries.
