A clan active in ancient Japan. The character Ta can also be written as Tai, Dai, Otomi, Otomi, Oho, etc. According to the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, the Ta clan's ancestor was Emperor Jimmu's son, Kamuyaimimi-no-Mikoto. The Ta clan is believed to have had its main residence in Otomi-go, Toichi-gun, Yamato Province (present-day Ta, Tawaramoto-cho, Ikoma-gun, Nara Prefecture), where the Ta shrine (Taza Mishiritohiko Shrine) is located. Ta shrine is listed in the Shikinaisha (Engishiki) system, and already had many kanbe (shrines) by the mid-Nara period, making it an influential shrine. The Ta clan's surname (kabane) was Omi, but some of them changed it to Ason in 684 (Tenmu 13). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
