Junki Ishihara

North Korean author. Born in North Gyeongsang Province. Studied at Sungkyunkwan University in 1947. Worked in transportation and as a journalist while participating in the anti-American struggle to save the country. Joined the Korean People's Army when Seoul was liberated in 1950, and after the war worked in the media in Pyongyang and wrote novels. Served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly, chairman of the Korean Writers Union, and head of the April 15th Literary Creation Group, and received the Kim Il-sung Prize. His representative works include the full-length novel "The Birth of an Era" (Part 1, 1964, Part 2, 1966), which is themed around the Fatherland Liberation War, the medium-length novel "Warriors" (1960), "Blooming Sunflowers" (1970) and "Spring Thunder" (1985), which depict the young generation who rose up in the anti-Japanese armed struggle, as well as the short story "Happiness" (1963), which reflects a new outlook on life during the Cheorrimah era.

北朝鮮の作家。慶尚北道(けいしょうほくどう/キョンサンプクド)生まれ。1947年成均館大学で学ぶ。運送業、記者などの職につきながら反米救国闘争に参加。50年ソウル解放時に朝鮮人民軍に入隊、戦後は平壌(ピョンヤン)で言論部門に携わり、小説を書く。最高人民会議常設会議委員、朝鮮作家同盟委員長、4・15文学創作団の団長を務め、金日成賞を受けた。代表作に、祖国解放戦争をテーマとした長編『時代の誕生』(一部・1964、二部・1966)、中編『戦士たち』(1960)、抗日武装闘争に立ち上がった青春群像を描いた『咲き乱れるひまわり』(1970)、『春雷』(1985)のほか、千里馬(チョンリマ)時代の新しい生活観を映す短編『幸福』(1963)など。
