...His early works show the influence of Surrealism and P. Picasso, and also contain strong elements of Native American art such as Indian art. Since his first solo exhibition at P. Guggenheim's Art of This Century Gallery in 1943, he gradually carved out his own path, and from the mid-1940s he explored the directness of the act of painting by laying canvas on the floor and dripping paint from a can onto it (dripping). From then on, his paintings became larger and covered the entire surface with paint (all-over paintings), resulting in extremely dense paintings that were rich in a certain lyricism. ...
