Aso Koretoki - Asokoretoki

Japanese:
Aso Koretoki - Asokoretoki

A military commander during the Northern and Southern Courts period. Aso Daigūji. In 1333 (Gankō 3/Shokei 2), he became Daigūji, but soon handed the position over to his son Korenao. When Korenao died in the Battle of Tatarahama in 1336, he returned to his position as Daigūji. In 1334, when Ashikaga Takauji rebelled against the Kenmu government, he participated in the Battle of Hakone Bamboo Grotto on the side of the Emperor, and escorted the Naishidokoro (sacred mirror) to Mount Hiei. He attracted the hopes of the Southern Court, and was appointed as the Kunijōshi (Kunijōshi) of Higo Province and the Shugoshoku (Guardian) of Satsuma Province. However, after that, as the clan split into two courts, he made maintaining the clan unity centered on the head of the family his greatest challenge, and he consistently maintained an ambiguous attitude. In 1351 (Shohei 6, Kanno 2), he retired, adopting Korezumi's son Koremura as his adopted son, and died of illness in 1353 (Shohei 8, Bunwa 2).
