Before dyeing fibers or their products, they are heated in an aqueous solution of detergent or alkali to remove resin, wax, fat, and other contaminants that have adhered to the surface and to remove the starch used in weaving in order to make the dyeing and finishing process go smoothly and to improve the finish.
