A branch of clinical medicine. Sexually transmitted diseases have different symptoms in men and women depending on the disease. Gonorrhea is noticed in men by pain in the urethra and purulent discharge from the external urethral meatus, but in women, the symptoms are mild, such as an increase in vaginal discharge, so it is difficult to notice. The initial induration, a symptom of primary syphilis, occurs around the coronal sulcus of the penis in men, so it is easily noticed, but in women, it is difficult to notice because it occurs in the vagina or uterine vagina. Furthermore, with chancroid and inguinal lymphogranuloma, the areas where the lesion is likely to appear, such as the initial induration, differ between men and women.

臨床医学の一分科。性病はそれぞれの疾患により，男性と女性に現れる症状が異なる。淋病では，男性は尿道の痛みや外尿道口からの排膿で気づくが，女性ではおりものの増加があるくらいの軽い症状なので気づきにくい。第1期梅毒の症状である初期硬結は男性の陰茎冠状溝の周囲に生じるのですぐ気づくが，女性は腟や子宮腟部にできるので気づきにくい。さらに軟性下疳や鼠径（そけい）リンパ肉芽腫でも，初期硬結のように病巣が男女により出現しやすい部位が異なる。
