Japan's first Western physiology book. Physiology, as the foundation of medicine, was introduced to Japan later than anatomy and pharmacology, and because understanding and translating its contents was difficult, there were no translated versions. In response, Takano Choei translated and compiled several Dutch books (by G. de la Faye, J. F. Blumenbach, and TA Roose, among others) into this work. It is said to consist of 12 volumes, but only the five inner volumes remain, and only the first volume was published (1832, Tenpo 3). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
