Cost of living index - cost of living index
A type of price index calculated based on the cost of living for each household. It is an index that shows the fluctuations in the expenses necessary to live a certain standard life, and usually calculates five indices for food, utilities, clothing, housing, and miscellaneous expenses. By comparing this with monetary wages, you can understand the living conditions at that time.

〘名〙 各家庭の生計費をもとにして算出した一種の物価指数。一定の標準の生活を営むために必要な費用の変動を示す指数で、ふつう、食費、光熱費、被服費、住居費、雑費の五指数を計算する。これと貨幣賃金とを比べれば、その時の生活状態がわかる。
