A town in Soraku County, located on the west bank of the Kizu River in southern Kyoto Prefecture. A suburban agricultural region connected to Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara, where rice and vegetable cultivation is thriving, with chili peppers and strawberries being its specialties. The center is Hosono, and the area is served by the Katamachi Line, Kintetsu Kyoto Line, and Keihanawa Expressway, and is rapidly developing into a residential area. Part of the Kansai Culture and Academic Research City. 25.68 km2 . Population: 35,630 (2010).
