The home of Suwa

Japanese: 諏訪の本地 - すわのほんじ

A story. 1 or 3 volumes. Also known as "Suwa Engi" and "Koga Saburo". Author unknown. Published in the Muromachi period. One of the "honjimono" stories that tells the origin of humans becoming gods after suffering. There are two versions of the story, and the main character is Koga Saburo, whose name is Suwa (Yorikata) or Kaneie, so they are called the "Suwa version" and the "Kaneie version". The Suwa version tells of how Saburo, who retrieved his beloved wife Kasugahime, who had been stolen from him by the Demon King, traveled around the underworld, and returned to Japan, where he became the gods of Suwa Kamimiya, Shimomiya, and Asama, respectively, along with Kasugahime and Yuimanhime, with whom he made a betrothed underground.

物語。1巻または3巻。別名《諏訪縁起》《甲賀三郎》など。作者不詳。室町時代に成立。人間が苦難のすえに神となった由来を語る〈本地物〉の一つ。2系統の物語があり，主人公は甲賀三郎，名を諏方（よりかた）あるいは兼家とし，これをとって〈諏方系〉と〈兼家系〉と称する。諏方系は，魔王に奪われた愛妻春日姫を取り戻し，地底世界を遍歴したのち日本に帰った三郎が，春日姫や地底で契ったゆいまん姫とともに，それぞれ諏訪上宮，下宮，浅間の神となったと語る。
