Cranial nerve paralysis (palsy) (English)

...Motor paralysis is also classified based on the distribution of affected parts of the body, but this can be broadly divided into cranial nerve palsy, which affects voluntary movement of the head and face, and paralysis of the trunk and limbs.
[Cranial nerve paralysis (palsy)]
Of the 12 pairs of cranial nerves, eight pairs are involved in voluntary movement: the oculomotor nerve, trochlear nerve, trigeminal nerve, abducens nerve, facial nerve, vagus nerve, accessory nerve, and hypoglossal nerve. Damage to the lower motor neurons belonging to these cranial nerves or to the skeletal muscles controlled by them can result in eyeball immobility causing strabismus or diplopia, external ophthalmoplegia (where the eyeballs become immobile and the eyelids droop), paralysis of the muscles of mastication, paralysis of the facial muscles, paralysis of voice, speech, and swallowing, and paralysis of the sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles.
