Born: March 9, 1898, Catford [died] August 8, 1966, Mexico City British geographer. Professor of human geography at the University of London, he trained many geography students. President of the International Geographical Union (1952-56). He especially pointed out the importance of regional geography and systematized it from a global perspective. He also wrote Applied Geography with the aim of making geography more practical, and argued that geography plays an important role in the rational use of national land, regional development, and solving population problems. After World War I, when the need for rational use of land was urgent in Britain, Stamp led a large-scale land survey that took about three years to complete, with the participation of more than 250,000 geographers and students from all over the country, and produced a land use map. For this achievement, he was knighted in 1965. His main works include The Land of Britain and Its Use and Misuse (47).
