A wave with a wavefront perpendicular to a certain direction of travel. When the wave source is very far away, the wave can be approximately considered as a plane wave. In terms of light, a plane wave corresponds to a parallel beam of light. In quantum mechanics, the state in which the position vector is r , the wave number vector is k , and the wave function is expressed as the spatial part of a sine plane wave exp ( i k・r ) is a state in which momentum is constant and plays an important role.
