The goddess of youth in Norse mythology. Also known as Iduna. Some say she is the wife of Bragi, the god of poetry. She is said to be the guardian of the apples of immortality that give eternal youth and life to the gods. Idun is tricked by the evil god Loki and is captured by the giant Sziad along with the apples. Having lost Idun and the apples, the gods begin to age and command Loki to bring Sziad back. Loki transforms himself into a hawk and transforms Idun into a nut, taking her back from the land of the giants. Sziad pursues them and is killed by the gods.
