...The main drivers were hippies. In modern Japan, religious communes such as "Ictoen" and "Atarashiki Mura" were established from the end of the Meiji period to the Taisho period, when the contradictions caused by rapid industrialization became evident. In the Showa period, political communes such as "Shinkyo Buraku" and "Yamagishi-kai" emerged from impoverished rural areas, and religious communes such as "Oyamato Ajisai Mura" emerged from the confusion of the defeat in the war. Furthermore, from around the 1970s, psychologically oriented "tribes" and hippie communes were attempted in various places, and "Yasakano Sato" and other communes that clearly aimed for social change appeared.
