This shrine is located in Hashimoto City, Wakayama Prefecture. At the end of the 9th century, Sumida Manor, which was part of the Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine territory, was established here, and the shrine was originally enshrined as the guardian deity of the manor. It later became the tutelary deity of the betto Sumida clan. The inscription on the Sumida Hachiman Eijikyo, a shrine treasure, is famous as the oldest bronze inscription in Japan, along with the inscription on a sword excavated from the Funayama Kofun Tumulus in Kumamoto Prefecture, and is a national treasure.
