Suzu ware

Japanese: 珠洲焼 - すずやき

This type of pottery was produced in the areas around Kamitocho and Takaramachicho in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, from the end of the Heian period to the middle of the Muromachi period. It is a type of pottery that descends from sueki, and is used to produce everyday items for the common people, including large jars, one-mouth bowls, and water jars, but the shapes of the pottery have regional characteristics. The main patterns are wavy comb patterns, and simple, practical items were mass-produced without using glaze. It fell into disuse in the middle of the Muromachi period, overtaken by the Kaga Kogama and Echizen kilns.

平安時代末期から室町時代中頃にかけて石川県珠洲市上戸町，宝立町を中心とした地方で焼かれた陶器。須恵器系統の流れをくむもので，庶民の日常雑器を焼き，なかでも大甕，片口鉢，水瓶が多いが，器形に地方的な特色がある。文様は櫛がきの波状文がおもで，釉 (うわぐすり) を用いず簡素で実用的なものを量産した。室町時代中頃に加賀古窯や越前窯に押されて廃絶した。
