Himi [city] - Himi

Japanese: 氷見[市] - ひみ
Himi [city] - Himi
Himi City is located at the base of the Noto Peninsula in the northwestern tip of Toyama Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1952. The central Himi district faces Toyama Bay and has developed as a fishing port, with the Himi Line running through it. Yellowtail fixed net fishing and sardine fishing are particularly popular. There is little arable land inland, so side jobs such as peddling small items have developed since the Edo period, and even today there are many migrant workers. The city is home to the Junichogata Euryale Water Lily breeding ground (a natural monument), the Asahi Shell Mound (historic site), and the Ozakai Cave (historic site), and the scenic coastal areas belong to the Noto Peninsula Quasi-National Park. Area: 230.56 km2 . Population: 51,726 (2010).
