Suzuki Shinichi

Japanese: 鈴木鎮一 - すずきしんいち
Suzuki Shinichi

Violinist and educator. Born in Nagoya. After graduating from a commercial school, he worked at his father's violin factory, but after studying the violin with Ando Kō, he studied under Klingler in Berlin from 1920 to 1928 (Taishō 9 to 1928). After returning to Japan, he was active as a soloist and chamber musician, but he is best known for the talent education movement he started in Matsumoto in 1946 (Showa 21) after the end of World War II. He started out as the "National Association of Early Childhood Education Comrades," but in 1948 he changed his name to the "Talent Education Research Association." His unique system, based on a textbook that used famous violin pieces as teaching materials, became known worldwide as the "Suzuki Method" after a concert tour to the United States with children in 1964. In 1953, he founded the Imperial Music School with A. Mogilevsky and served as its principal.
